January-February: Snowmobile Radar Runs on Saturdays in Rockwood on Moosehead Lake Second last Saturday in January: Moosehead Riders annual B-52 Memorial Snowmobile Ride and Supper Last Weekend in January: Annual Moosehead Lake - Ricky Craven Touge Ice Fishing Tournment - Cash Prizes - $1500, $750, $375 respectively for biggest Touge. We encourage everyone to be part of this special event. February 9th - 2010 Moosehead Lake Wilderness Sled Dog Race Moosehead Lake Sled Dog Race Moosehead Mush Family event free to the public allowing spectators to learn about the sport of dog sledding and see them in action. The race bypasses right in front of The Cozy Moose Cabins February 14: Valentine Sweetheart Dinner Specials offered at local inns. Enjoy fine dining, incredible atmosphere, and great service. Advance reservations a must. Call us for details. February 15: Moosehead Lake opens Salmon Ice Fishing February : Ice Fishing Expo at Nickerson Elementary in Greenville at 7pm. Experts from Indian Hill Trading Post and IFW will demonstrate traps, explain gear and provide tips on where to fish. There will also be an ice house on display. February : Winter Field Trip led by Doug Kane, IFW Biologist, centered around deer habitat, landowner cooperation in preserving deeryards and survival strategies of other Maine wildlife in the winter. Call 695-2045 for more information. February 13: Moosehead Lake, Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club House Chili / Chowder Fest Kicks off Greenville, Maine weekend events. February 14: Annual Moosehead Riders Winter Snowfest on Moosehead Lake. Fun filled week kicks off Friday night with a Chili and Chowder Fest, snowmobile radar runs, games and activities for the entire family with trophies, snowmobile parade, evening bonfire and fireworks on Saturday followed by a pancake breakfast on Sunday. February 23: Monson Snow Roller Day- Starts 6am-4pm Ongoing events throughout the day, Fishing Derby on Lake Hebron, snow sculpture contest, pancake breakfast, sled races, games, poker runs, lunch, and kids open gym March: Ice Fishing Tournaments, sponsored by Moosehead Bait and Tackle, and Indian Hill Trading Post Rockwood, and Greenville March : Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe Tour, at A Fierce Chase Cross Country Ski Center. Educational tour led by John Chase, who helps participants identify animal calls and tracks. First Saturday in March: Spring Creek BBQ Snowmobile Trail Party- On snowmobile trail ITS 85 South towards Blanchard trail side cookout, dinner and bonfire! March : Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club Cookout. Enjoy snowmobiling in Maine with The Moosehead Riders. Join us on the trails for great snowmobiling fun and excellent food. March : Eagles, Peregrines and other Raptors- Maine Birding Event, Maine Visitors Information on raptors that live in the Moosehead Lake Area. Maine wildlife biologist Charlie Todd, a state expert over 30 years. March 26: Maine Maple Syrup Sunday. There are two local sugar houses that open to the public offering free tours, tastes of Maine Maple Syrup. Appropriate for all ages. Moosehead Lake Maine Vacations Information - Spring Vacation Events 2010 Early Spring: Fiddlehead Season in Moosehead Lake Area. Ostrich Fiddleheads is a Maine delicacy. Maine Moose and deer come out of the woods. Maine Wildlife sightings are numerous in early spring as they can easily be seen by vehicle or in the woods for the leaves have yet to come out. March TBA: Moosehead Lake Regional Fishing biologist discusses fishing and fishing management in southern Piscataquis County waters. April 1: Maine Fishing Open Water Season Begins in area ponds. April 1: Application Deadline for Maine Moose Hunting permit. Applications available from Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife (207) 287-8000 April 15: Off Road Vehichle Adventure Wildlife Tours start and are offered throughout the season thru October. April TBA: Fly Tying Workshop, Greenville Elementary School 6-9pm. A great opportunity to learn about Maine fly fishing in The Moosehead Lake Region with materials provided at workshop.
Mid-May- Mid Oct: Guided canoe moose safaris begin throughout the Moosehead Lake Region. Private guided tours available. This is truly a great way to observe and learn about Maine's majestic moose. Contact us for private guided tours departing from our cabins. May 15 - June 30: Moosehead Getaway Safari Tour Package -Celebrate Moosemania with our Moosehead Maine vacation special that features 3 nights of lodging, and a 4 hour private guided moose safari tour that departs from our lakeside cabins. Enjoy wildlife viewing on a canoe moose safari adventure. May 21: Moose River Canoe Race in Rockwood. Softball tournament, spaghetti and mooseball supper with more activities TBA May 17-18: Spring Birding and Foraging Trip- NREC and Wildlife Servic Maine Birding slide show 7pm. Bird Walk May 18th with bird expert Ron Joseph of the US Fish and Wildlife Service as well as a session on wildlife plane foragin led by Tom Seymour, author of Foraging New England. May May 31: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies, Greenville and other locations. June TBA: Annual Moosemania Tour De Moose Mountain Bike events at Squaw Mountain Resort. Choose your course either an 18 mile course over varied terrain and is physically challenging or a shorter 9 mile course. Pre-registration forms available for both events through Chamber of Commerce or on race day. Prizes awarded to first 3 places in each age group, each day along with Race T-shirts and other prize drawings from local sponsors.
June 19: MooseMania Craft Fair. All day fun filled day featuring the Moosterpiece Annual Craft Fair. 4pm - Moose Tales Slide Show and demonstration of moose calling, and a taste of moose refreshments. Downtown Greenville Community House. Mid-June: Strawberry season is here! Berry-picking farms open to the public. Stutzman's Farms which is one of my favorites is about a 35 minute drive from Greenville. Moosehead Lake Maine Vacations Information - Summer Vacation Events 2010 June TBA: Moosehead Lake 16th Annual Rowing Regatta at the Greenville Junction Wharf. Course last year was a 4.5-mile triangular layout in West Cove. Prizes awarded for top finishers in each category. June 19-Sept 27: Moosehead Historical Society- Docent guided tours being Wednesday-Friday from 1pm-4pm. June Friday Evenings: Music in The Gazebo 7pm- The first in a series of concerts in downtown Greenville sponsored by The Town are planned for Friday evenings at 7pm throughout the summer. Entertainment TBA. Bring your lawn chairs, or a blanket and enjoy! July : Jazz kick off Blair Hill summer outdoor concert series at 7pm at The Blair Hill Inn July 2-4: Worlds Largest Book Sale 10am-3pm, Masonic Hall July 4: Town of Greenville's Fourth of July Celebration- Features special events, craft fair at 9am, games at 10am, parade at 1pm and much more. Fireworks display over Moosehead Lake. A great time to be in town. July : Ready Workers Open House Coffee- Food and craft tables in Community House from 9am to 2pm CA Dean Celebrity Benefit Bike Ride, BBQ, and Auction at Greenville High School 9:30am to mid afternoon Greenville Recreation Dept. activities TBA. July 7th - Aug 18th: Moosehead Lake Wednesday Moosehead Lake Hikes, Meet at the NREC office in Greenville, destinations vary based on weather. Moosehead Lake Hiking destinations: Eagle Rock, Wilson Falls, Gulf Hagus, Katahdin Iron Works, Big Moose, Little Moose, Number Four Mt., White Cap Mt., Borestone Mountain, and more. July 9 - Aug 21: Moosehead Lake Experience Days - Maine Woods Explorers, Fridays and Saturdays meeting at 8:30am. Pre-registration required at NREC center, call or email office for forms. Offering Canoe, Kayak, Map and Compass, Foraging, Maine Authors and Artists, Rockets, Astronomy, Silverculture, Geology, Fishing and More. Moosehead Lake Day camp programs for all ages. July Friday evenings at 7pm Music in The Gazebo- Entertainment. Last year featured Chairback Gap playing strains of original and bluegrass music. It was a great show! July: Slide Show on Fishing and Wildlife in Moosehead Region, presented by Dan Legere, Nickerson Elementary School, Greenville. July : 6th Annual Vintage and Classic Boat Show- Held by the Moosehead Lake Yacht Club, at the Moosehead Marina in Rockwood. Features unique runabouts from the New England Chapter of Vintage and Classic Boat Club, Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. For more information contact Moosehead Marine Museum. July 23, 7pm: Moosehead Lake Cultural Cross Roads- Dr. Hamilton Moosehead Native and professor offers a cross cultural perspective into the history of the Moosehead Lake Region, at the Center for Moosehead History. July 24, : Mt. Kineo Tour - Time TBA, Depart from NREC office and Dr. Hamilton will lead the expedition teaching families outdoor youth skills in the North Maine Woods. August : Bows and Strings ( Fiddlin Sue Crippen, Kev and Elsie Sproul ) Folk and Ballads, the third of a four-concert series by the Greenville Gazebo Concert Series. August : Grapevine Association Golf Tournament at Squaw Village Golf Course August : Moosehead Historical Society Tea and Fashion Slide Show 2pm. August 2nd Week: Skowhegan State Fair - Oldest continuous running fair in US. Midway rides, Exposition Shows, Harness Racing, and Concerts. This is one of our favorites! August : Ready Workers Public Supper- Community House, 5pm to 6:30pm. August : Ready Workers Lumberjack Breakfast- Community House 7am to 9am. August : 2nd Weekend- Forest Heritage Days. A great educational event about foresting the Maine North Woods. Woods tours, educational exhibits, and logging competition. Bus tour to various spots throughout the woods to present aspects of northern forest management, recreational, wildlife, and water resources. Lunch will be provided.

Ready Workers Auction at Community House in Greenville August : Summer Sky, 8pm, held at the Greenville School All Purpose Room, Junction and sponsored by The Natural Resource Education Center. Astronomer Dr. John Hermann will speak about the summer sky, complete with telescopes. Fun and educational. August : Mighty Sam McClains Soulful Blues performs with his eight piece band carrying on the tradition of vocalists like Bobby Blue Bland, O.V. Wright and Otis Redding at 7pm at The Blair Hill Outdoor Concert Series. August : Piscataquis Valley Fair, Dover-Foxcroft, Old fashioned agricultural fair with midway, horse pulling, livestock and more. August - Sept : Springfield Fair. Experience the North Woods culture in a fun family environment. Entertainment TBA, ATV and garden tractor pulls, demolition derby, livestock, children's events, carnival rides, food and much more. See you there! Moosehead Lake Maine Vacation Autumn - Fall 2010 August Pig Roast to benefit Cystic Fibrosis research, Rockwood. August : Nathan and The Zydecco Cha Chas perform Creole music of southwestern Louisiana. Nathan and his six piece band features songs of heartache, betrayal and hope at 7pm at The Blair Hill Outdoor Concert Series. Enjoy a Cajun Feast Creole Cookout at 5pm before the concert. September 9-11: International Seaplane Fly-In Weekend This aviation event offers entertainment, presentations, contests, and awards dinner. A very popular event. September 20-October 13: Scenic Fall Foliage -- Attention leaf-peepers -- Late September to early October usually offers the best fall foliage displays. Help us preserve this beautiful mountain. October Labor Day Weekend Annual Moose on The Run 5K Road Race and 1K Fun Run. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and The Town of Greenville October: Ready Workers Fair 10am to 2pm and Harvest Supper 5pm to 6:30pm.
